A Season of Love Message~12-2-11~Holiday Spirit~
December 2, 2011
A Season of Love Message for Friday: Today is a good day to make some plans to do something new for the Holidays. Many of us hold close to traditions and things we did during the holidays when we were growing up. Maybe you put up the tree at a certain time, made cookies or goodies and shared them with neighbors, began wrapping gifts early or had a special ornament to hang on the tree. Starting a new tradition or trying something new could be fun for you and your family and friends. Why not make cookies together, go to a tree lighting ceremony, drive around looking at all the holiday decorations, invite someone to dinner, send a card or gift to a soldier who’s protecting our freedom, go caroling or do something totally new that you’ve never done before! How exciting it is to try something new, share the joy of the h0lidays, get out of the old routine and surprise some family and friends. It’s always good to share some cheer and joy, even when the holidays are over!!
For me, the holidays are a mixed bag of emotions. I love the sparkling lights, the excitement about Santa coming, the mystery, the joy, the music, the food, remembering old times, good times and creating some new memories. My emotions tend to go up and down when I look back over the years and also think about how things are in the now. I love the old stories, the nostalgia, when times were different, less hectic, more meaningful and simple. I do my best to keep some of the traditions that are close to my heart in my routine, but it’s always good to do something different and new too.
One of the biggest things I tend to get on a soapbox about this time of year, is how I wish everyone had the holiday spirit all year round. We may not keep our tree up all year long, but we need to keep the spirit of love, kindness, giving, joy, peace and light, within us and in our actions 365 days a year. We need to keep it a live all the time! Yes, the holidays are special and this is a time to celebrate, rejoice, show gratitude, share, love one another, give from our hearts and put up decorations, bake good foods and hold close to our hearts our traditions to be a part of it all.
We can make a choice today, to do something new but also hold onto the loving traditions of old. There are so many gifts we can give that don’t go under the tree, but show our love every day of the year!
Peace, Fran~Mysti~
